Help needed: Red Brick 5k Run/Walk

Hey All,

It’s that time of the year again as the Red Brick 5K Run/Walk is back in Oxford! Robert Frost called Miami University “the most beautiful campus in the nation”. The university is set in the rural heart of the city known as Oxford and this is the chance to see it like you’ve never seen it before. The course will take you through and around campus, showing you all the charming “Red Brick” buildings that have given the university its beautiful environment.

In the past, the Sports Leadership and Management Club has been very helpful with making sure the race runs smoothly. This year, we are looking for your help again! We are looking for willing volunteers to help run the race and help make it the best experience for everyone on race day. The race is anticipating a large amount of participants, so volunteers are a great help when it comes to everything going as planned. We are looking for 5-10 volunteers from each organization, which we find would be a great help!

If you could pass this email along to the rest of your organization and help spread the word it would be greatly appreciated!

The deadline for becoming a volunteer for the race is March 16th, 2018. For more information about the event, or to volunteer, please contact Ruchelle Dunwoody at dunwoor@miamioh.edu or Geremy Bardon at bardongw@miamioh.edu.

We hope to see you there!

What?: Red Brick 5K Run/Walk 2018

When?: Sunday, April 22nd

Internship: Indianapolis Motor Speedway

CollegeFlyer_FINAL

We are currently one month away from the application deadline for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway College Program. I am writing to connect with your students—whether that be in newsletters/job postings, career fairs, meetings with student groups, or classroom visits.

Also wanting to invite you and your students to our Open House & Social, Thursday, March 8th 1pm-3pm in the IMS PagodaThis is a great chance for students to get their questions answered, meet and network with IMS staff, see the facility for themselves and learn how College Program impacts the Racing Capital of the World. While this is during the school day, it is our hope that you will see the extreme value in this program and opportunity and invite/encourage your students to take this afternoon to meet with us.

March 8th Agenda

1:00pm– Networking & Socializing with IMS Staff

1:45pm– IMS College Program 101

2:30pm– Marcie Ahern, Sr. Director of Guest Experience

Marcie has been an event professional for over 18 years, previously serving as a Vice President at Indiana Sports Corp before joining IMS as the Sr. Director of Guest Experience.  3:00pm– Facility Tour (Kiss the Bricks, Give a Press Conference, Stand in Victory Circle)

Students can RSVP to the event here.

We only have a limited number of spots remaining for Tier 1 and Tier 2, so it is important for students to commit to this May experience before March 15th. The incredible thing about this program, is that we can plug students in whenever and however is needed. So in reality, there is no reason that every student interested in working in sports, events, or hospitality is not able to get involved in the Month of May in some way. I am happy to provide more information on this aspect of the program, so please don’t hesitate to reach out.

I have attached information on the IMS College Program and wanted to highlight a few things about the program and what students will gain by joining us this May:

Students will:

  • Add the World’s Single Largest Sporting Event to their resume, participate/celebrate the Month of May with peers, and serve/interact with thousands of race fans and IMS clients from around the world
  • Ensure efficient event operations within the 988 world-class facility by executing and resolving operational issues with gates, tickets, hospitality, parking, shuttles, traffic, and credentialed areas
  • Lead their peers, develop professional skills and have access to participant-only networking opportunities and sessions
  • Receive a completion certification from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, highlighting accomplishments and involvements that can be presented to potential employers

Thank you for forwarding this opportunity to your students, student groups, and classes. I am hopeful to host individuals students as well as classes on March 8th.

Please do not hesitate to reach out about any of this, and please let me know the best way to get connected on your campus.

IMS is working hard to build this program and its reputation in the Indy Sports Community, so we look forward to getting your school involved.
